Part of what I think is important in business is that you expect and give respect. Reciprocating respect is one way to practice the Golden Rule.
Even if you agree with the Golden Rule, how do you apply that to someone on the opposite side of the negotiating table? It doesn’t mean that you need to be stupid. It doesn’t mean you should settle for a house.
But it does mean that:
