Lorton Community Action Center has taken a new twist on the back to school drive this year due to the plans for the coming school year and the pandemic. Volunteers are out collecting school supplies, but for now, they are getting supplies for the students to home-school, and when the school officials make the decision to go back to the classroom, there will be another load of supplies for the classroom.Continue reading

Workhouse Arts Center Celebrates Women’s Suffrage Month

The Workhouse Arts Center is holding special Thursday evening Drive-In movies, a Girl Scout Gold Award Project virtual event, and a suffrage-related art exhibit. All these events are planned for the month of August. The museum presents the story of the imprisonment of the 72 Suffragists at the Occoquan Workhouse in 1917 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th amendment in 2020.
