Heritage Fellowship Church Distributed Food At The 7-Eleven In Herndon

A white box truck of 'Heritage Fellowship Church' distributed food on Saturday, Aug. 22, shortly after 9:30 in the morning. The truck was parked at the 7-Eleven parking lot in the Town of Herndon that is an informal day laborer site. The truck carried 300 boxes of food to be donated to anyone who asks. Filling Near Empty Food Pantry Shelves In Herndon

The Northwest Federal Credit Union Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Northwest Federal Credit Union, is trying to fill empty tummies. Mary Kaye "Kaycee" Childress, Executive Director of the Foundation said, "Our once-full shelves are now close to empty. Food insecurity affects everyone. Most significantly, it impacts the children in our community who are no longer able to get free breakfasts and lunches at school...No family should have to choose between buying food and paying their bills. World Central Kitchen Feds Hundreds In Mount Zephyr

On Thursday, April 16, the Rising Hope United Methodist Church set up camp with the World Central Kitchen to feed hundreds of people in the Mount Zephyr area. The recipe that really hit the spot was Chef José Andrés’ recipe which was a combination of meat, corn, rice, and spices. Pastor Keary Kincannon said, "We gave out 300 meals in 30 minutes. SLHS PTSA Food Pantry Distributes Food In Herndon And Reston

South Lakes High School in Reston has been shuttered due to COVID-19 but the school's PTSA (Parent Teacher Student Association) Food Pantry kept on working. The school's Principal Kim Retzer said, "Since the start of all of this, Food Pantry organizers have been planning how they can continue to support our community while adhering to health department guidelines for social distancing. The dedication of the volunteers, significantly limited for safety reasons, is nothing short of amazing. Food for Neighbors Transforms Virtual Red Bags Into Real Food In Herndon

Food for Neighbors weekend grab and go bag distribution for middle and high school students in Fairfax County Public Schools' Herndon Pyramid was assisted by the staff members from Herndon High School. Students or their parents waited in front of Hutchison Elementary School in Herndon and watched staff unload bin after bin of food in Ziploc bags. Organizers had overlapped distribution location and time with that of Fairfax County Public Schools' free meal service. Continue reading
