The Inova Schar Cancer Institute will be open for patients on May 13 on its Merrifield campus. This will usher in a new level of patient care and medical treatment in Fairfax County.
According to Reston Connection, “The Schar Cancer Center raises the already-high level of health-care facilities in Fairfax County,” said Catherine W. Riley, interim president and CEO of the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority. “As part of the Inova Center for Personalized Health, it can make Fairfax County a destination for world-class research and clinical work.”
Dedication ceremonies for the center were held on Wednesday, 24 April. The center has cost $150 million and is built for care and research purposes for cancer patients. A former Exxon Mobil site was acquired for this purpose. The largest contribution in the construction of the institute was made by Dwight Schar and wife Martha, who donated $50 million.

As per Reston Connection, “We are so fortunate in Fairfax County to have access to such world-class medical care and treatment,” said Bulova, who presented a proclamation from the Board of Supervisors congratulating Inova. “We have amazing facilities, doctors and cutting-edge technologies that are right here, literally in our own backyard, and that is so incredibly valuable."
The Innova Schar Cancer Institute will provide a first-class cancer facility in Fairfax County. Now the patients don't have to travel hundreds of miles for the cancer treatment. The research aspect of the project will create a new horizon the diversification of the workforce of Fairfax County.
