If you like street music, then you’ll find no better spot to wander than Old Town Alexandria. Through-out the week, especially on weekends, musicians gather in Old Town at street corners and near the waterfront to play music for tips and applause. Most are highly talented professionals, some are learning to play their instrument in front of a crowd. I enjoy them both in different ways.
Here in Old Town Alexandria, you’ll find everything from a lonely saxophone, to steel drums to an entire band. Below I’ve collected a few photos to give you a taste of Old Town’s many musicians.
This foursome was phenomenal singing and playing old time mountain music. It was a great throwback to the Carters because the gal in the front on the guitar was a great singer. The banjo player and bass were on point, and I love the texture that the mandolin (seated behind guitar) provided.
The glass harp as played by Jamie Turner is an old town treat one simply must hear in person to appreciate.
This miss not only strummed the harp to perfection but also sang beautifully.
At the waterfront behind the Torpedo Factory there are often a few soloists serving up music for passers-by.
I heard some fine picking and strumming from this pair.

You might be surprised to learn the variety of sizes found in condominiums. Condos range from studios and one bedroom apartment on up. You may even find three or four bedroom condos. Of course, the penthouse suite is often quite nice on the top floor. Even condominiums with the same number of bedrooms can have different floor plans and different numbers of bathrooms and half-baths. For example, there are 2 bedroom 1 bath configurations; and 2 BR 2 BA configurations.
Porto Vecchio Condominiums are located on the Southern tip of Old Town at the edge of the George Washington Parkway. The balconies at these units offer views of the water. Outside the building there are paved roads sitting right next to the Potomac River. Also there are wooden docks situated on the water. Amenities at Porto Vecchio include: a swimming pool overlooking the Potomac, a gorgeous veranda, a dock, tennis courts, an exercise room, sauna, bright and open party rooms, easy access to the Mount Vernon trail, 24-hour desk, security, limousine service, and extra storage rooms.
Not all real estate practitioners are enthusiastic about the effectiveness of open houses, but here are five good reasons to consider holding one:
The odds are low but sometimes open houses lead to a sale.
Home sellers like them. They like seeing their real estate professional working hard for them.
Visitor feedback is good for sellers.
Other real estate practitioners tour open houses and they sometimes produce sales.
Open houses engage people, including friends and neighbors who might bring in a buyer.

Some of the best housing deals are on high-end homes, many over $1 million. Some of them need TLC or they aren’t in the most-coveted locations. Although they borrow from the Georgian’s classic lines, Regency homes eschew ornamentation. They’re symmetrical, two or three stories, and usually built in brick. Typically, they feature an octagonal window over the front door, one chimney at the side of the house, double-hung windows, and a hip roof.
They’ve been built in the United States since the early 1800s and you can find a number of examples of the Regency in Northern VA.
