Curbside Glass Recycling To Be Halted In Alexandria

The City of Alexandria will stop curbside glass recycling in January 2020. Residents will be required to recycle their glass containers at purple drop off bins or dispose them in the trash after the effect takes change. The reason for the change stems from recycling contamination, increasing recycling costs and lack of regional glass sorting facilities. The City has therefore partnered with other jurisdictions to offer purple glass recycling bins across the region with 5 bin locations in Alexandria. The bins will only accept glass bottles and jars of all colors and these bottles and/or jars must be emptied and rinsed with metal lids and caps in place. The City will not accept lamps, bulbs, glass ceramic, porcelain, mirrors and windows in these recycling bins.
