The Ivy Hill Cemetery is a historical site in Alexandria. The 22+ acres cemetery which was established in 1856 is located at 2823 King Street in Old Town. Ivy Hill is the final resting place for more Confederate veterans than any other cemetery in Alexandria. The site is home for Frank Stringfellow, who was a noted spy and scout. It is also home to Burton Harrison and his wife who made the first Confederate flag. Among the burial ground there are woodlands and natural stream. There is also many species of birds and wildlife located within the cemetery. The Ivy Hill Cemetery Historical Preservation Society is responsible for ensuring the cemetery maintains its historical factor to Alexandria. The Society also conducts guided Civil War tours as well as educational and cultural programs for visitors.
