On October 16th the St. Lucy Food Project and ALIVE!, members of Hunger Free Alexandria (HFA) benefited from donations from the Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Arlington. The donations which was made in front of Alexandria's City Hall included 5,000 pounds of non perishable food. The donation is a part of the Catholic Charities ongoing mission to address hunger in Alexandria. The Hunger Free Alexandria initiative is a community based coalition of food providers, faith based communities and social service organizations aimed at ending hunger. Through its St. Lucy Food Project, the Catholic Charities has collected and distributed over 1.2 millions pounds of food annually to persons in need throughout 21 counties. Its Christ House ministry located in Old Town Alexandria has donated over 130,000 pounds of food locally.
