The U.S. Army has announced that they are planning to open a national museum next year in Northern Virginia. They have announced this plan after decades of planning. On Wednesday, the army officials announced that the National Museum of the United States Army will open on Fort Belvoir on June 4, 2020.
According to wtop.com, “The museum will be the first in the nation to tell the branch’s 244-year history. It will be on a publicly accessible section of Fort Belvoir. Museum officials expect 750,000 visitors annually in the first year. Groundbreaking on the 185,000-square-foot (17,000-square-meter) facility began in 2016.”
In 2011, Fort Belvoir was selected as the site for the museum. But the opening date has been postponed several times since then.
