Tall Ship Providence To Arrive In Old Town Alexandria On July 1st.

The Tall Ship Providence Foundation has announced that the replica of the Navy Ship Providence is slated to arrive in Old Town on the night of July 1. The ship will arrive just before midnight and it will pass through the Woodrow Wilson Bridge before being greeted by a water arch by the Alexandria Fire Department and guided by welcome boats to the display area in Old Town. A temporary visitor center will be located at 1 Cameron St lower level with a permanent center slated for opening in 2020. At the visitor centre persons can learn more about the birth of the U.S. Navy. The Providence will be opened to the public and visitors can step on abroad to learn about life on the sea in the 18th century. Visitors will also learn about the history of the Providence and meet a John Paul Jones reenactor.
