FCPS To Have Test-To-Stay Program

Virginia’s largest public school system will change COVID-19 quarantine requirements in the New Year. Fairfax County Public Schools has been accepted into a test-to-stay pilot program run by the Virginia Department of Health, starting in January, according to a news release. Under the test-to-stay guidance, students deemed close contacts of other students who have tested positive for COVID-19 can continue in-person classes if they continue to test negative. Students In Fairfax County Score Above National Average On SAT

The Fairfax County, Virginia, school system said Wednesday the Class of 2021 performed above the national average on the SAT, and said only slightly fewer students took it compared to last year. The Fairfax County overall mean score of 1201 surpassed both the state average of 1151 and the global average of 1060, the school system said. Lake Braddock Secondary School Celebrated Commencement

On the warm morning of June 10, Lake Braddock Secondary School seniors and their friends and families gathered at Jiffy Lube Live to celebrate their commencement—the first time they all gathered together since before the pandemic. The ceremony opened with the presentation of colors by the school’s JROTC, followed by a recorded performance of “The Star-Spangled Banner” by singers from Lake Braddock Secondary School and elementary schools from the area. FCPS To Return To Five Days Of In-Person Learning

Fairfax County Public Schools will be returning five days a week of in-person learning in the fall. The school division said it used its “safe, steady, ready” approach to successfully transition eight cohorts of students and staff across all grade levels to in-person instruction. By March 19, more than 109,000 students will have returned for in-person learning, while keeping in-school COVID-19 transmission rates low.Continue reading

Money Raised By “Soap For Hope” Drive In Fairfax County

A Fairfax County, Virginia, teacher found out that almost a quarter of his students had a parent who lost a job because of the pandemic, he decided to do something about it. He and his class launched a unique project to help them. David Kelly and his eighth-grade science students at Lake Braddock Secondary School in Burke started a GoFundMe drive called Soap For Hope. Kelly said, “We’re using our chemistry skills that they’ve learned to make soap”. Continue reading
