Colvin Run Mill opened in a grand celebration for its first grind of the season on Sunday, May 2, 2021. The occasion marked the completion of the replacement white oak flume and water wheel that power grinding operations at Colvin Run Mill. Colvin Run Mill is located in Great Falls. Colvin Run Mill has great importance as it is the sole surviving operational 19th-century water-powered mill in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. The grinding season at the mill begins in April. Grinding takes place on the 1st and 3rd Sundays on the month through October from noon to 3 p.m., conditions permitting. The mill is run like it’s 1811 when the mill was first operating. Fresh products, stone-ground on-site, are always available in the General Store. Continue reading
