SR 123 runs a little more than 29 miles from Route 1 in Woodbridge north to the Chain Bridge across the Potomac River into Washington from Arlington. Locals know Virginia State Route 123 by several names other than 123. From its southern end to the Occoquan, it is known as Gordon Boulevard. From the Occoquan River to the the city, Virginia State Route 123 is known as Ox Road. From Fairfax until crossing into the the Town of Vienna, Virginia State Route 123 is known as Chain Bridge Road. Next, as it passes through the Town of Vienna, Virginia State Route 123 is known as Maple Avenue. After leaving the Town of Vienna, the name reverts to Chain Bridge Road until the intersection with I-495 in Tysons. Between Tysons and the GW Parkway, it is known as Dolley Madison Boulevard. After crossing over the George Washington Memorial Parkway, the name is again Chain Bridge Road and continues this way until the terminus of the road, at the Potomac.
