Local business and community leaders gathered at Laurel Hill Golf Club on Sept. 22 for the 23rd Annual Chamber Golf Classic hosted by Mount Vernon Lee Chamber of Commerce to raise money for the Chamber’s Scholarship Fund. Winning the competitive field was the team from Genuario Construction Co. with Rick Genuario, Sue Genuario, Robert Hines, and Dick Alderson. Rotary of Great Falls Celebrates Ten Years

Ten years is an anniversary to celebrate, and the Rotary of Great Falls did it in great style. A gala reception at River Bend Country Club provided the occasion for remembering the club’s projects, speakers, and friends. President Stephen Clark introduced Master of Ceremonies Jeff Thinnes, the dynamo life-long Rotarian who founded the club. On that occasion, 85 newly minted Rotarians gathered at River Bend, a number that so amazed Rotary International that Thinnes was invited to speak at the international conference in Thailand that year. T.C. Williams High School Seniors Win Prestigious Scholarships

Two seniors at T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria are feeling ecstatic and grateful after winning the prestigious Posse Foundation scholarships worth $250,000. Seniors Wilmer Carranza and Madeleine Allen who will be attending college this fall will have their tuition costs covered after they were awarded the scholarships at a ceremony held in Washington D.C. Wilmer and Madeleine will both be looking to major in Computer Science at Lafayette College and University of Wisconsin-Madison respectively. Continue reading

Mount Vernon Philanthropist Recieved 2019 Chancellor’s Award

A civic activist and philanthropist from Mount Vernon, Glenn Fatzinger, received the 2019 Chancellor’s Award for Leadership in Philanthropy for Virginia’s Community Colleges. He received the award in the spring. The award was given to acknowledge his longstanding support of Virginia’s Community Colleges. This included co-founding the Northern Virginia Community College Educational Foundation, and the establishment of an endowed nursing scholarship in honor of his wife, Harriet H. Fatzinger, who died in 2011. Two partial nursing scholarships are awarded annually to Northern Virginia Community College students in her memory. Continue reading
