3 Reasons to Choose Noodles & Company

Are you tired of cooking for the family? If you really need a night out of the kitchen, but still want to take the family, I think I have a possible alternative.  Sometimes, going out for dinner is a big hassle.  Dragging everyone out of the house, hoping for cooperation and for the odd chance that none of the kids are fighting with each other is sometimes tough to get.  When this does happen the price that you pay to eat out, unless its in a drive thru window is not fun to take on. I went out on Route 1 in Alexandria last night to Noodles & Company.  This name of the restaurant alone is a magnet to me.  I decided to try this out and see if it was an option for not only me, but the family outings as well.  My goal was to see if the price, taste of the food and the atmosphere were conducive to family outings. The simple answer to all of these is 'yes'.  I looked up the menu before arriving on the web site, so I was already prepared to make my selection.  When I did order, I found the staff to be very smiley and cheerful.   This is a good sign.  I ordered something that I miss very much - spaghetti and meatballs.  I complimented the tomato taste with a side of tomato bisque soup and added an orange juice. The price was very reasonable and I was happy to not be eating greasy fast food.  This alone made it a good evening for me.  The atmosphere in the restaurant was very clean and family oriented.  It made me think happy thoughts.  Again, a good thing. When I did complete my meal, I was pleasantly surprised again to find that every morsel was delicious.  For a casual, inexpensive, family dining experience this was just what I was hoping to find. Next week I'll look for another like this and report my findings.   Still looking for that dream home to complete your evenings?  Check out the information and the listings below.

Real Estate and Neighborhoods of Alexandria, VA

Alexandria dates back to the colonial era and many of the neighborhoods of Alexandria reflect that heritage. However, Alexandria is also home to newer and relatively new neighborhoods like the Carlyle District and Kingstowne. To learn more about these or other neighborhoods in Alexandria VA, surf through the tabs here. Alexandria is a highly livable city with enviable amenities, culture and attractions. The Commonwealth of Virginia considers Alexandria an "independent city" which means that Alexandria is not in any county. However, parts of Northern Virginia have an Alexandria postal address, but are actually in Fairfax County. All this can be confusing for newcomers to the area, but we try to simplify this in our guide by organizing things so they make sense for the home buyer. You won't have to be a Virginia jurisdictional authority to find the home you want to buy, but start here for a primer on Alexandria.

3 Reasons to Love Montebello

Are These Condos Just Like All The Others? I have just had the chance, within the past couple of days, to conduct my first quarterly inspection of a few properties in the Montebello development in Alexandria, Virginia.  I have driven by the complex countless times on the way to the laundromat, restaurants and other various shops out on Route 1., but this was a chance to see it for what it truly is.  Seeing this from the roadway, it looked the same as any other in the area and I expected nothing different.3E03730A-9C1A-4CDD-A54B-464B348B8FB7 The first thing that I realized is that this a gated community.  This, to me, is a huge plus.  There are other gated communities in the area, but this was turning out to be a bit different.  When I got through the gate, after talking with the security guard, I took a right and headed for what I was told was building number 1.  The address is 5901 on the first building and there is a tranquil little jaunt up toward the building through lush trees and over a creek.  I only mention this, because it's nice to see the Virginia come out in this place.  Personality is how I like to describe this and this made me like it right away. After arriving at the correct building I saw initially that parking was ample and depending on what floor you would be living on, you would probably be able to see your vehicle from the window of your condo.  That to me is another good thing. I liked the look of the lobby, the elevator and the decor all together in the hallways.  It looked as if it was cared for very well.  The presentation before getting into the condo is important to me.  When I finally got into the first condo I saw the second very good thing about this complex.  The rooms are very spacious.  The condo I inspected that day was a 1 bedroom, two bath and it was very spaciously comfortable inside.  I could easily see all of my possessions fitting well inside this place. As I worked my way around in inspection mode, I realized the third great feature about this Montebello complex - the views from the balcony.  Now, it's not the DC view, but what it is - is a breath of fresh air.  It truly is a relief to me to get just a bit off the busy streets and come up there to see a view of lush greenery.  This day I happen to be on the tenth floor.  Trees and grass are the view from up there (a nice change from the mundane concrete) and it is going to be so beautiful shortly, when the turning of the leaves begins.  I smiled and got back to work.  I completed the inspection, complimented the condo and left, knowing that for the price paid - this was definitely worth it.  I've seen many different properties during this current inspection process, but this complex is turning out to be one of my favorites.  Is it time for you to move to Montebello? Richmond Highway Express

Richmond Highway Express, nicknamed "REX" is a bus route operated by the WMATA (the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority) in partnership with Fairfax County, the City of Alexandria, the Commonwealth of Virginia and the Federal Government. The REX is a limited stop express bus that serves the Richmond Highway corridor. Before the REX, riders from Fort Belvoir had many stops to make along Richmond Highway enroute to Huntington Metrorail Station and to the King Street Metrorail Station. REX buses operate every 15 minutes in both directions on Richmond Highway during weekday rush hours. During non-rush hours and on Satuday the REX comes through every 30 minutes. Then on Sunday the bus only operates every 60 minutes. Buses operate between 5:30 AM and 10:00 PM Monday through Saturday, and 5:30 AM to 9:30 PM on Sunday. The REX uses special technology which allows REX buses to sustain green lights in order to move more quickly up and down Rt. 1. The REX bus has low-floor buses for quicker boarding and SmartCard for quicker paying. In addition the REX has only a limited number of stops:
  • King Street Metro (Alexandria)
  • Dulaney Street/PTO (Alexandria)
  • Eisenhower Avenue (Alexandria)
  • Kings Highway
  • Beacon Center
  • Lockheed Boulevard
  • Arlington Drive
  • Belford Drive South
  • Ladson Lane
  • South County Center

REX passengers may transfer at any Richmond Highway stop to Fairfax Connector routes, and may transfer at Huntington and King Street Metro stations to rail service as well as other local bus service such as Alexandria’s DASH.REX bus at King St. Metro To stand-out from other Metrobuses and other area bus lines, REX buses are purple-blue with a golden yellow logo featuring the image of a running lion. The lion references the three lions emblazoned on the Fairfax County seal, which references the family crest of Lord Fairfax. Bus stop signs use the same color scheme, and stand out among the other bus stops along Route 1.
