Visit Founders Park In Old Town Alexandria

Founders Park is a peaceful riverside park located in Old Town Alexandria. The park was once called West Point in the early 1700s and was the first settlement site for the Europeans in Alexandria. The site was once used an industrial area for the building of a warehouse before becoming a storage area for tobacco, a landing point for African slaves and a fish town. The site was then considered for the development of a townhouse complex which was never developed due to residents of the other surrounding neighborhood wanting to convert the site into a public park. The site was officially called Founders Park in 1978 before being purchased by the City of Alexandria in 1981. Continue reading
