Just west of the southern extent of Crystal City, Fort Scott Park was one of the forts for the defenses of Washington during the civil war. It was named for General Winfield Scott, the then Commander-in-Chief of the Union Amy.

Old Town Pool is located a 2.71 acres multipurpose facility located at 1609 Cameron Street in Alexandria. The area features a 25 yard lap pool with diving well and an handicap accessible training pool combined with a basketball court, picnic area and a playground for the kids to enjoy before or after swimming. The Old Town Pool is adjacent to the Durant Recreation Center located to the east and Buchanan Park located to the north. This pool is the only one located in Old Town Alexandria. Hidden Pond Nature Center is located in Springfield in Fairfax County. Hidden Pond Nature Center is spread upon 25 acres of land and is an oasis of woodlands and wildlife. The one-acre pond is home to turtles, fish, frogs and many birds, among other animals. Hidden Pond Park is the perfect place to bring children of all ages as it features tennis courts, a playground, and a nature center. You can also see live animal exhibits in the nature center, as well as have the opportunity to purchase items such as educational books and food.
