Parkway Plan Started In Mount Vernon In Early October

The George Washington Memorial Parkway is set for several changes to adapt to the amount of traffic, speeds and sight distances to make this travel corridor safer for motorists and pedestrians. The parkway is maintained by the National Park Service, and officials there are looking at the intersections of Stratford Lane, Collingwood Road and Morningside Lane to implement safety measures, and a road diet in other places. George Washington Parkway Roadwork Is Finally Done

The commuters in Northern Virginia's George Washington Parkway can relax now as the roadwork is finally done. The lanes are back open after more than five months of lane closures to repair a gaping sinkhole. One of two northbound lanes of the parkway has been closed since May. The National Park Service in a Friday morning news release said that work near Dead Run has been completed and drivers can once again use both lanes as they approach the Capital Beltway. Homes Near Open Spaces Command Big Bucks

A Colorado State University (CSU) study looked into home prices in conservation developments, where residential real estate is limited and usually 50 percent to 70 percent of the land is set aside as open space.

The research shows that home buyers are willing to pay a premium to live near such open, undeveloped tracts. Sarah Reed, co-author of the study, and her colleagues compared 2,222 home sales in five counties throughout Colorado between 1998 to 2011. The conservation developments designated an average 64 percent of land as open space, while traditional rural subdivisions allocated just 4.9 percent. The study found that homes in conservation developments sold for 29 percent more than properties located in conventional residential projects. Furthermore, increasing lot size in an undesignated conservation development hiked the market price by 38 cents per square foot, the report found. In nonconservation developments, a larger lot size translated to just 9 cents per square foot. The study was funded by the National Association of REALTORS® and CSU's School of Global Environmental Sustainability. Homes for Sale Near the George Washington Parkway

Just off the George Washington Parkway there is a trail that runs from Old Town Alexandria to Mount Vernon. The trail goes all the way to DC and has several parks along the way. The trail has a detour to the Woodrow Wilson Bridge and goes all the way to National Harbor. The trail is in use year round, however people really start to come out in the warmer seasons like Spring and Summer. Nearby neighborhoods include Belle View, Fort Hunt, Mount Vernon, and Old Town. The Potomac River has plenty of great fishing spots - in the past I would go with friends on a small paddle boat through the Potomac and catch a variety of fish including bass. Just off the parkway there is the Belle Haven Marina which is a great place to store boats at. Just across the Potomac is National Harbor. The parks off the George Washington parkway are a great place to get some outdoor recreation. There is plenty of room for activities like ultimate frisbee, throwing a football, or playing soccer. Also the parks have grills that are great for outdoor BBQs. This area has tables that are great for having a picnic.
