Rotary of Great Falls Recognized As Top Achiever

The Rotary of Great Falls has been recently named as one of its top achievers for 2019-2020 by Rotary District 7610. The club was honored in several categories. It received plaudits for several youth projects, including sponsoring two teenagers for Rotary’s Leadership Institute; its Interact Club’s Habitat for the Humanity building project in Lynchburg; the new Rotaract Club (serving 18-30-year-olds) launch of its Flags for Heroes, the launch of Cooper Middle School’s 4-Way Test essay contest; and sponsorship and leadership of Wolf Trap’s First Time Campers weekend targeted at children from challenged backgrounds. Chantilly’s Juanita Brill Celebrates 100th Birthday

Chantilly’s Juanita Brill celebrated her 100th birthday on June 19 with her family and balloons. Brill was born and raised in Arkansas. She moved to Washington, D.C., during WWII. Fun fit for a King: Kings Dominion

Located in Fredericksburg, Virginia, Kings Dominion is a great place for families and children of all ages to enjoy a day off. The amusement park is owned by Paramount and is the only major theme park in Virginia (there is a Six Flags in Baltimore, Maryland). The park includes several roller coasters, a concert hall, and a water park is about two hours from Northern Virginia. Kings Dominion is home to fifteen roller coasters including the Volcano, the Anaconda, the Intimidator 305, Flight of Fear, and the Dominator. The park offers an extensive collection of water attractions as well, many that are great for young children. Paramount and the Cedar Fair Entertainment Company has partnered with the children's network Nickelodeon to provide genuine and authentic live action performances of some favorite novelty characters. Dora the Explorer, Spongebob, and Diego can all be seen at the park. When planning a visit, be sure to purchase tickets online for a great discount. Starting in April, the park will be open on weekends and certain holidays/weeks. Season passes are now available online for the 2011 season. Sherwood Library serves & educates Mt. Vernon area

Opened in 1971 and located at 2501 Sherwood Hall Lane in Alexandria, the Sherwood Regional Library provides many resources and services for residents, including hands-on technology classes, one-on-one tutoring sessions, 27 internet stations with Microsoft Office Suite and a computer with ZoomText software. For those hosting community meetings or gatherings, the library has numerous spaces, including a meeting room that fits 200 and is often used for family literacy classes. Other spaces are four conference rooms for 12-45 people each, a group study room for four people and a quiet study room for 10. The library also hosts the Mt. Vernon Farmers Markets on Tuesday mornings from May to November and an ongoing book sale. For more information on library events, click here.
