Marshall Dantzler, a Chantilly resident and longtime member of the Centreville-Chantilly Rotary Club, was honored April 21 by the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS). He was one of three former employees inducted into its Hall of Fame, which recognizes those whose work has had a lasting impact on agricultural statistics and the service NASS provides. Southgate Community Center In Reston To Be Renamed

Southgate Community Center in Reston may be getting a new name soon. Fairfax CountySupervisor Walter L. Alcorn (D-Hunter Mill District) presented a Board Matter at the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Meeting of May 4 that staff from the Department of Neighborhood and Community Services (NCS) work with the community to rename Southgate Community Center in recognition of Supervisor Catherine M. Tour de Hunter Mill Starts In Hunter Mill District

Cyclists of all abilities gathered early Saturday morning, May 15, at Reston Community Center for the inaugural Tour de Hunter Mill. Organized by the Hunter Mill District, Fairfax Alliance for Better Bicycling (FABB), and Reston Bike Club (RBC), the event showcased “Unity in our Community.” Gulu Gambhir and Rhonda Van Diest of Vienna readied themselves for the ride and appeared delighted to be there. Clean Fairfax And Aslin Beer Company, Herndon Hosted Earth Daze

Looking to better the environment and celebrate the 51st anniversary of Earth Day, Clean Fairfax and Aslin Beer Company hosted Earth Daze on April 24 at the Elden Street Herndon brewery. The one-day event promoted sustainability in a fun and interactive environment, laid out in the fenced-in beer garden. Proceeds from the event allow Clean Fairfax to continue leading its charge on all things green and sustainable in Fairfax County. 1-Cent Cut In Tax Rate Approved By Fairfax County

The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors voted 9-1 on a budget plan that includes a 1-cent decrease in the real estate tax rate, but rising property values will result in bigger tax bills later this year in the Virginia county. Fairfax County Board Chairman Jeff McKay said the 2022 budget plan strikes a balance in a difficult budget year, providing more money to public schools, including a teacher pay raise and a 1% pay raise for county employees. Volunteers Needed In Fairfax County To Help With COVID-19 Vaccinations

Interested in helping with the COVID-19 vaccination effort? If you are — and can pass a criminal background check — you could help with Inova Stonebridge’s vaccination site in Alexandria. Volunteers are needed daily for at least the next six weeks to help clinical and logistical support teams. Requirements include being 18 or older, fluent in English, the ability to stand for extended periods of time, and the ability to push an adult in a wheelchair. Continue reading

More 3D Imaging Satellites Launched By Herndon’s BlackSky

Herndon, Virginia-based BlackSky, a space startup whose small imaging satellites collect high-resolution images of Earth for government and commercial customers, is accelerating the expansion of its satellite constellation. BlackSky will add nine satellites this year through a launch partnership with Long Beach, California-based Rocket Lab, which specializes in small and cube satellite launches. Continue reading
