Nancy J Lee Recreation Center: A Home Away From Home

The Nancy J Lee Recreation Center located at 1108 Jefferson Street is Alexandria. The center which is 14.6 acres is named in honor of the late Nannie J Lee, a community activist who was instrumental in the development of recreational activities for children in southwest Alexandria. The recreation center features a multipurpose room, a gymnasium, Reading Lounge and Crafts with athletic fields such as tennis courts, basketball courts, volleyball courts, soccer fields, football fields and little league softball/baseball fields. The center also features a playground with sitting area for toddler and kids up to 12 years to enjoy. The playground comprises of slides, rock climbing structures and swinging bars with rubberized obstacle course. The center is available for private events on Saturdays and Sunday and Mondays -  Fridays for the general public.Continue reading

Learn More About Trucks At The Annual Tons Of Truck Event In Alexandria.

The City of Alexandria will come alive on July 20 2019 as the Annual Tons Of Truck event takes place at Chinquapin Park and Forest Park, 3210 King Street Alexandria. The event will take place 10 am to 1 pm and will feature over 20 City vehicles on display. Patrons at the event will get the opportunity to explore and get behind the wheel of fire trucks, front end loader, dump truck, bucket truck, trash truck as well as bus and police cars. Persons can meet and greet with the personnel who have built and maintained the vehicles. Other activities at the event will include food truck vendors, giveaways, photo opportunities, book readings and art project with the City's Mobile Art Lab. Parking is available. Continue reading

Celebrate Art At The Del Ray’s Annual Art On The Avenue Festival

Del Ray's Annual Art on the Avenue Festival will be held on Mount Vernon Avenue in Del Ray on October 5 from 10 am to 6 pm. The annual festival which is held on the first Saturday in October celebrates the community's diversity through the arts. The festival hosts over 300 artists from jewelers, woodworkers, pottery akers, soap crafters, glass makers and sculptures. Live music will be provided on five stages with music from Irish, folk, rock n roll country and more. Food vendors from local restaurants will be on sale right through the festival. Patrons (kids and adults) at the festival can participate in the annual pie eating contest which will be held near the Festival Store with 100% proceeds going to the non profit organization Kelley Cares. Kids can participate in activities such as stuff your own scarecrow, paint a pumpkin, design a lotus flower and weave screen art. All are invited to attend this artistic annual event. The 17th Annual Alexandria King Street Art Festival will be held on Saturday September 21st and Sunday September 22nd at 220 King Street in Old Town Alexandria. The historic King Street will be transformed into a world class outdoor art gallery where art lovers can come and discover spectacular paintings, life size sculptures, jewelry, photography, ceramics and more. The annual event will feature festival booths lined along King Street between Washington and Union Street with over six blocks of artwork by more than 200 artists from the US and abroad.
