Retired Air Force Col. Robert A. Shawn of Herndon recently turned 100 years old. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Loudoun County Post #1177. Shawn’s comrades at the Post could not let one of their fellow defenders of freedom go without recognition on his momentous day, COVID-19 or not. Leah Ning of Herndon has been recognized as one of twelve “writer winners” for her entry, “Yellow and Pink” in this year’s international competition, the L. Ron Hubbard’s Writers of the Future Contest. Ning is a Boeing programmer by day and author by night. In addition to the Writers of the Future Contest, a second contest, Illustrators of the Future, was also held with twelve winners selected by greats in the arts. Food for Neighbors Transforms Virtual Red Bags Into Real Food In Herndon

Food for Neighbors weekend grab and go bag distribution for middle and high school students in Fairfax County Public Schools’ Herndon Pyramid was assisted by the staff members from Herndon High School. Students or their parents waited in front of Hutchison Elementary School in Herndon and watched staff unload bin after bin of food in Ziploc bags. Organizers had overlapped distribution location and time with that of Fairfax County Public Schools’ free meal service. Continue reading
