The Mark Center Building in Alexandria, Virginia is found at the intersection of Seminary Road and Beauregard Street at the Interstate 395 interchange near the Winkler Botanical Reserve. The Washington Headquarters Services (WHS) of the United States Department of Defense and a number of other DoD agencies are now located at the Mark Center Complex in Alexandria VA. The site is administratively part of Fort Belvoir and th name of the site refers to the "Mark Center" commercial property in which it is located.
The Mark Center is a fairly new location for the headquarters and the new site meets Department of Defense high anti-terrorism security standards. Many of the approximately 6,500 staff personnel who will be relocated to the Mark Center were formerly located in Metro-accessible locations such as Crystal City, Virginia, and office buildings in Washington, D.C. The impact of the new traffic patterns are still undetermined but many are considering moving closer to the Mark Center to make for an easier commute. The Virginia Department of Transportation said it will keep an eye on traffic patterns along Interstate 395.
Virginia has already allocated $80 million for construction of a reversible high-occupancy vehicle ramp ramp at I-395 and Seminary Road, while the Defense Department is paying $20 million for other short-term fixes, including turn lane and ramp widening at Seminary Road and Beauregard Street.
