Welcome to Fort Myer
Fort Myer is a small post by U.S. Army standards, and has no ranges or field training areas. Fort Myer is home to the 3rd United States Infantry Regiment, the oldest infantry regiment in the United States Army.
As a result of the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) initiative to create more efficiency of efforts, the Army’s Fort Myer and the Marines’ Henderson Hall became the first Joint Base in the Department of Defense. Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall (JBMHH) and consists of military installations at Fort Myer, Virginia, Crystal City, The Pentagon, Fort McNair, the District of Columbia, and Henderson Hall – Headquarters Marine Corps, Virginia. These installations and departments serve over 150,000 active duty, DoD civilian, and retired military personnel in the region.
Fort Myer is a U.S. Army post adjacent to Arlington National Cemetery at Rosslyn in Arlington County, Virginia, across the Potomac River from Washington, D.C. Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall provides installation services and support to Military Members, Civilians, Retirees and their Families with a quality of life commensurate with the quality of their service. On order, provide Base Support to MDW/JFHQ-NCR facilitating deployment of forces for Homeland Defense and Defense Support to Civil Authorities in the NCR.
Fort Myer is easily accessed by most of Arlington County, especially to the north of Fort Myer. Fort Myer is also easily accessed by many residents of Mclean VA. Washington DC is an option that doesn't make great sense for those who need to work at Fort Myer. Fort Myer is very close to the Federal heart of Washington DC including it's monuments, memorials and great government buildings. But there are few residential neighborhoods in Washington DC that are in close proximity to Fort Myer. Fairfax County is also a good option for Fort Myer but the commute will be a little longer than Arlington County.
