Groundbreaking Of Vienna Police Station To Be Held On Jan. 29

According to Vienna Police, groundbreaking for the new Vienna Police Headquarters will take place Friday, Jan. 29 at 10 a.m. Town of Vienna Mayor Linda Colbert, Town Council Members, Police Chief James Morris, and police personnel will attend the ceremony. Town of Vienna residents is welcome to attend. Social distancing and face masks are required. According to patch.com, "The new approximately 30,000-square-foot police station will replace the old 9,800-square-foot police station at 215 Center Street South. The larger space will provide space for staff, accommodate upgraded technology and security, and provide a multipurpose space that can be used by community groups. The new building will also allow all police divisions to operate out of the same location; the police department's criminal investigations section has been in Town Hall since 2007. The police department has 41 sworn officers and 11 civilians." As per patch.com, "The town had issued $14.9 million in bonds to fund the police construction in March 2020. Earlier in January, the police department moved into a temporary location at the former Faith Baptist Church at 301 Center Street South. The new location does not impact police operations and response times, and the dispatch center remains operational."
