FROGS: History of Green Spring Gardens

FROGS (Friends of Green Spring) is dedicated solely to the support of Green Spring Gardens, a unique Fairfax County (Virginia) Park Authority site.  A gem of a public garden and historic site, the garden's 31 acres offer a multitude of settings, features, and programs to inspire and educate gardeners, provide a place for quiet contemplation for all, and open a window into the county's cultural past.
Fairfax County, Virginia - Green Spring is one of the Washington area's premier gardens.
The FROGS tell us that Green Springs Garden's unique geology once supported a rare magnolia bog plant community.  Green Spring at times produced tobacco, tree fruit, livestock and distilled spirits. The foundation of the park is a 1784 historic house that witnessed the Civil War and eras of both care and neglect before its restoration in the mid-20th century. Both humble and notable personalities have gathered there where you still can enjoy tea. Learn more about Green Springs Gardens by visiting and consider donating to the FROGS!
On November 11th, at 9:30 am, Green Spring Gardens is hosting a watercolor painting class.  Botanical artist Dawn Flores teaches you how to plan and execute an orchid-inspired painting. Information on orchid anatomy, lessons on color, and a variety of watercolor techniques and transfer practices are presented. Orchid owners may bring their own specimen or work from photographs provided by the instructor. This class is appropriate for any skill level and runs from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Green Spring Gardens. Bring a lunch.
