Non Profit Organizations In Alexandria Adapt To Serve The Community

More than 150 non profit organizations in Alexandria has faced many challenges to provide for the community due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic has caused these organizations to find innovative ways to support the community while being faced with depleting funds and resources. ACT for Alexandria is the major provider for non profit organizations in Alexandria. The organization has created the ACT Now COVID-19 Response where community members donate funds towards providing essential services such as food, shelter and emergency health supplies. ACT has already distributed $525,000 to more than 50 organizations and was able to raise a record $2.45 million on the annual Alexandria's Giving Day, Spring2ACTion. Together We Bake is an organization that helps women become self sufficient through hands on experience in food service and Hospitality. A benefactor from Alexandria's Day of Giving, the organization has been providing graduates with psycho social support and financial assistance for rent and other necessities. the organization will also be engaging in providing Mothers Days meals and meals for healthcare workers. Community Lodgings provides transitional and housing to 45 families and serves 150 children through a youth education program. To help alleviate the impact of school and business closures, the organization is waiving all housing late fees and assisting families with food supplies by ordering food boxes and hot meals each week. These non profits organizations and more are doing their best to provide support to the community during this pandemic.
