Yacht Haven is a community of single-family detached homes in Mount Vernon. It is found along Dogue Creek where it meets the Potomac River. This is an area steeped in rich history. Yacht Haven is on land once belonging to Union Farm which was one of several plantations that made up George Washington’s massive Mount Vernon estate.
Yacht Haven was mostly built in the 1970s but many of the original homes, especially those on the waterfront have been replaced or significantly expanded. Most homes here are sited on 1/2 to 3/4 acre lots. The entrance to Yacht Haven Estates is on Ferry Landing Road approximately one mile from Fort Belvoir.
While recent homes for sale in Yacht Haven have started around $600,000 for original 1950s residences, the majority of listings are over the million-dollar mark. This stands true for both older and newer properties, including stately antiques that have been renovated and enlarged over time.
Many properties boast large lots and many have the added feature of a private dock, balcony, decks, or patios. Mount Vernon Yacht Club is in the neighborhood. Schools that serve Yacht Haven are Washington Mill Elementary School, Whitman Middle School, and Mount Vernon High School.
