Things To Know About Bowen McCauley Dance Co.

Bowen McCauley Dance Company(BMDC) is an award-winning, contemporary dance company renown for its spirited dancers, use of live music, the professionalism of its dance performances, and its extraordinary outreach programs that share the joy of dance with everyone in the society.   Founded in 1996 by Lucy Bowen McCauley, this non-profit company has energized diverse audiences with creative and vibrant choreography --a fusion of contemporary movements with classical undertones set to a sweeping range of musical styles. Lucy has choreographed over 100 original works ranging from ballets to highly physical contemporary pieces set to rock music. Her unique choreography demonstrates a fluent outpouring of dance blending balletic lines, quirky gestures, and modern dance moves that explore the interplay between music, dance, and drama. BMDC holds regular performances throughout Arlington, Northern Virginia, and the DC Metro region, ranging from free, family-family programs to ticketed, red carpet events. The annual Move Me Festival has evolved into one of their signature events. BMDC's artistic focus is on expanding its reach and impacts through its community outreach programs which include arts-integrated workshops, after-school residences, and free weekly Dance for PD, a class for people with Parkinson's Disease and their caregivers. In recognition of outstanding dance and community services, BMDC has received numerous awards and recognitions including Virginia for the Arts' 2013 Art Star Award, the Leadership Arlington 2013 Nonprofit of the Year Award, and the prestigious 2009 ABBIE Award by the Arlington Chamber of Commerce.
