Celebrate George Washington’s Birthday At These Events In February

The month of February will mark the 288th anniversary of George Washington’s birth and the City of Alexandria will be celebrating all month long. Residents can enjoy events in Old Town Alexandria that will commemorate the birth of their adopted resident George Washington.Events taking place across the city will include:

  • Cherry Challenge – restaurant across Alexandria will create unique cherry centric dishes in honor of George Washington’s birthday from January 26 – February 9.
  • George Washington’s Alexandria Tours – Every Sunday in February residents can take a free 90 minute guided walking tour which will explore Old Town and all the sites associated with George Washington. The tour will begin behind Torpedo Factory Art Center.
  • Chocolate with General Washington – kids and adults are invited to spend an hour with General Washington on February 8 discussing the revolutions while enjoying hot chocolate and delicious snacks. This will take place at the George Washington Masonic National Memorial.
  • George Washington Birthday Parade – this event will be held on February 17th from 1 – 3 pm in Old Town Alexandria. the parade will be a one mile route with grand marshal Robert Shumaker.
  • Washington’s Birthday Celebration – this event will be held on the most exciting day of the year. The day will feature a presidential tribute with honored guests and wreath laying at his tomb. A marching drill will be performed by Continental soldiers who will fire their guns and charge at their enemies in a military demonstration. The Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps will play patriotic music after thorough the celebrations.
  • Concert at Market Square – a free one hour concert will be held at Market Square in Old Town. The concert will include performance by the parade marching band units and other musical units in honor of General and Lady Washington.
