The school bus system in Alexandria will be given a big boost with the introduction of five (5) electric school buses by the end of 2020. The cost of the new school bus initiative will be covered by Dominion Energy. The new "vehicle to grid" system will help to feed the power grid in the city while reducing emissions.
Alexandria City Public School is one of 16 districts chosen to receive the electric school buses. The buses will be equipped with bidirectional inverters which can charge the buses or store energy and feed back into the electrical grid. The new school bus initiative will be see an additional 1000 electric school buses online by 2025.
