Local Non Profit Organization Seeks Second Home Along Alexandria Waterfront

The Alexandria Seaport is seeking to expand its space along the Waterfront. The non profit organization which provides a safe space for at risk youth and teaches them skills through boat building to navigate a successful future. Located at the original building of the Mcllhenny Seaport Center the foundation wants to build a second waterfront building on the north side of the pier which will allow them to more youth and have space for larger projects. The Alexandria Seaport Foundation offers youth "a three tier curriculum that teaches them the crafts of woodworking and boat construction' the skills of resilience, problem solving and communications; the life skills of relationships, self care and empathy necessary for them to be come resilient and productive adults and assets to their community. The new building would be similar in design to the old building and it would be more accessible to the public and more functional for the growth of the foundation. It will be two stories and a combined 1740 square feet of space with classroom space and smaller rooms where one on one counseling can take place.
