City officials has approved the proposal for the development of a new cat cafe and wine bar in Old Town Alexandria. The new one of a kind Mount Purrnon Cafe and Wine Bar will be located at the former home of Sand and Steel Fitness at 109 South Alfred Street in Old Town. The proposal for the business was deemed consistent with the Old Town Restaurant Policy and complies with the King Street Retail Strategy goals.
The business will act as a foster home to 15 cats aged six months and older. These cats will be medically checked by a vet and evaluated before being brought on the site. These cats will be allowed to live on the property until adoption or brought back to the shelter. In addition to being a foster home for the cats, the business will accommodate the purchasing of pre-packaged food and alcohol in the form of beer and wine in shatterproof containers. Patrons will be allowed to feed and play with the cats.
