“Cranksgiving”-Bike Scavenger Hunt And Clothing Drive Coming To Arlington

A bicycling group in Arlington will hold its first annual "Cranksgiving", a food and clothes charity ride to support the homeless. The choose-your-own-adventure scavenger ride co-sponsored by the Friends of the Mount Vernon Trail will happen on Saturday, November 23 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m and will help the Arlington Street People's Assistance Network (A-SPAN). The ride will begin and end at Ireland's Four Courts at 2051 Wilson Blvd. in Courthouse. Cyclists will be expected to create their own route based on a map of participating stores and buy food, clothing, or hygiene items to donate to A-SPAN and help those in need during the winter season.  Though the event is free, cyclists are required to register in advance and are encouraged to form teams of 4-5 members. Everything bought must be hauled by bicycle, in a bag, rack, pannier, or trailer. At the end of the event, the participants will meet back at Irelands Four Courts with receipts and photographs to turn in their items. The ones with the most items will be awarded. “Cranksgiving is a way to have a lot of fun while also helping others during the holiday season,” said event organizer Judd Isbell in a press release. “We are thrilled with the number of businesses and organizations who are enthusiastically supporting this event.” Cranksgiving is held annually in over fifty cities throughout the United States around Thanksgiving. This is the first time the free event has come to Arlington. Organizations that are participating in the event include:
