Butterfly Effect Mural Raises $10,000 In Donations

The Butterfly Effect Mural which was painted near the intersection of king and north Patrick streets have raised over $10,000 in donations for non profit organizations. The mural which was created by Vice Mayor Elizabeth Bennett-Parker in partnership with artist Tasha Wahl, ACT for Alexandria, Asana Partners and Bloomers has garnered attention from many residents who use their social media to donate to these non profit organizations.

Residents participate in the campaign by taking a photo in front of the mural and choosing a non profit organization that they wish to donate to from a list of 250. Each non profit organization selected receives a $20 donation. The Alexandria Police Federation and the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria received the social media prize and the most photo submissions prize respectively. The mural was customized by artist Tasha Washl with the phrase “Be the Change You Want To See In The World” in English, Spanish and Arabic.
