Alexandria Hits Record Revenues In Tourism Sector

The City of Alexandria has continued its upward trend in the tourism sector for 2018 with a record revenue of $859 million. The data which was obtained from 2018 Economic Impact of Domestic Travel on Virginia and Localities report shows Alexandria has been the seventh highest visitor spending in 2018 with Virginia Beach and Norfolk its nearest competitors. The visitor spending in Alexandria has increased due to visitors from 50 or more miles away from the City. President and CEO of Visit Alexandria, Alexandria's main platform for tourism stated that the boost in revenue resulted from "the relocation of Amazon HQ2, Virginia Tech's Innovation Campus and Alexandria being named a Top 5 Best Small City in the US by the Conde Nast Travelers Readers' Choice Awards". Visit Alexandria promoted the city through its regional marketing campaign, its promotion of the new Waterfront Park, Portside in Old Town event series and the King Street Corridor Initiative projects. The tourism sector will hope for a further boost in revenue as Visit Alexandria will be focusing on introducing new destination advertising campaign and promotion of individual neighborhood content in Alexandria. https://patch.com/virginia/oldtownalexandria/tourism-spending-hits-record-859-million-alexandria
