Preparations are in full swing at Mount Vernon to celebrate 4th of July. An event named "An American Celebration" is going to be held at Mount Vernon on July 4. People will get a chance to salute the first commander in chief during this Mount Vernon's annual Independence Day event.
There will be dazzling made-for-daytime fireworks in the event. The fireworks will be shot off over the Potomac River. The participants will listen to the roar of cannon fire while viewing special military re-enactments throughout the day.
The organizers recommend advance ticket purchase. The event will continue from 8 am to 5 pm. An American Celebration will take place rain or shine.
There will be a moving naturalization ceremony at 11:00 am with a keynote speech by best-selling author and Pulitzer Prize winner Rick Atkinson. At noon in the Vaughn Lobby, Atkinson will be signing the first book of his new Revolutionary War trilogy, The British Are Coming.
There will be a performance by the National Concert Band during its "Red, White and Blue" concert at 12:00 pm on the East Lawn, and at 12:30 pm a special wreath-laying ceremony at Washington's Tomb with Captain Cardone of the USS George Washington will take place.
You can enjoy daytime fireworks from the East Lawn, followed by free birthday cake (while supplies last) and military re-enactments on the Bowling Green. Throughout the day, you can visit with General and Mrs. Washington.
