In what could be the last Rolling Thunder rally, over 500,000 motorcyclists gathered in the shadow of the Pentagon for the 32nd annual ride on May 26.

According to an article by arlingtonconnection.com, organizers of this iconic rally, which begins at dawn from Arlington to Washington D.C. honors fallen soldiers, POWs, and those still missing in Action, announced last year December that the 2019 ride would be the last one of its kind in the area. The organizer cited the rising costs especially those related to the use of the Pentagon parking lots as a staging area and starting point, as part of the reason for making this decision. They said that they would focus on smaller community events starting in 2020. However, there have been some mixed messages circulating following a Tweet from President Donald Trump that implied that the ride would return to the Washington area. In the tweet, Trump said that the government would work with the organizers to help maintain costs so that the annual ride would continue. The organizers said that they would entertain any talks that would continue the ride but there is still no official word that has been made to indicate a change in the current status. The Rolling Thunder Ride, which is officially known as the First Amendment Demonstration Run, or Runs to the Wall, began in 1987 on the Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend to show continued support for the efforts of finding lost service men and women of past conflicts.
