City Of Alexandria and City Of Caen Sisters Cities Committee To Celebrate D-Day In June

The Alexandria-Caen Sister Cities Committee will be hosting two (2) events to commemorate the anniversary of D-Day. The Sister Cities International was established in 1956 by Dwight Eisenhower as a means of promoting peace between different communities around the world. Caen, a French City which was destroyed during the Battle of Normandy became a sister city to Alexandria in 1991. The events to be held will mark the 75th year since the Allied Forces stormed the shores of Normandy which led to a victory that became the turning point of World War II. The first event will be held on June 1 at the new Waterfront Park from 11 am to 4 pm. Patrons to the event will observe World War II-era vehicles, enjoy performances from re-enactors, take French painting class and listen to live music among many more activities. The second event will be held on June 6, the D-Day Anniversary date from 7 pm to 9 pm in The Lyceum. This event will feature a panel of distinguished current and retired US military personnel who will discuss the significance of the day and how it changed the United States. A wine and cheese reception will be held after the event. https://alexandrialivingmagazine.com/upcoming-events/alexandria-caen-sister-cities-to-commemorate-d-day/
