School Of Rock Officially Opens New Location In Old Town Alexandria

School of Rock which is the largest multi location music world has officially opened its new location in Old Town Alexandria. The music school which has more than 200 locations worldwide opened its Alexandria location at 3260 Duke Street on Saturday May 4, 2019. School of Rock was founded in 1998 by Paul Green, a Philadelphia music teacher whose mission was to teach young musicians not through scales, chords and beats but through playing in a band. The City of Alexandria is a place full of music and arts education which made the city the most logical place for the school to be located. School of Rock has three (3) program levels - Rookies, Rock 101 and Performance. Students who have mastered a level will graduate from that level and move on to another. All students start off at the Rookies level where they experiment with drums, guitars, pianos or basses and ultimately chose an instrument of their choice. At the Rookies level students are taught the basics of song structure which will carry them through the other programs. In Rock 101 students continue learning scales and chords and play songs with a band of fellow students. At this level students are also taught rehearsal performance etiquette and the basics of their instruments. At the last level, students perform in the community using the knowledge they would have gained from the previous two (2) levels.  The music school is divided into three-to-four seasons with each themed around a different repertoire of songs. In Alexandria students will be able to audition for a house band which will perform at regular gigs in the community.
