Jones Point Park is located on the Potomac River just south of Old Town Alexandria underneath the Woodrow Wilson bridge. The park is open to the public all year round from 6 am to 10 pm. The park serves an area for learning about history while enjoying other activities. The park is an important part of Alexandria's history as it was one of the largest centers for shipping, manufacturing and transportation in Virginia. Jones Point Park features the only remaining riverine lighthouse which was built in 1855.
Jones Point Park is the perfect place for adults and kids to enjoy while learning about its history. It features restrooms, water fountains, picnic tables and a dog drinking bowl. An exhibit is displayed at the park which highlights the area's fresh water marsh habitat and its role in shipbuilding and navigation. Persons who love to garden can own a piece of the park by purchasing a garden plot located at the park. Fishing piers are available for the avid fishing lovers who owns a valid fishing license. The fishes available for casting are American catfish, rock bass and American eels. Persons can go canoeing on the Potomac River through the park's canoe launch. Kids can also enjoy themselves at the park through its Learn to Ride and Lighthouse Ride programs offered by park rangers. There are two (2) playgrounds and two (2) basketball courts located at the park.
All commercial activities and group activities for the field and the basketball court will require a permit and arrangements should be made in advance.
