McLean is a census-designated area in Fairfax County, Northern Virginia. The area was named after former publisher and owner of The Washington Post, John Roll McLean. He, along with the bankroll of French aristocrat Jean-Pierre Guenard and Stephen Benton Elkins, built the electrified Great Falls and Old Dominion Railway in 1906. The community was founded in the year 1910, at the time of the merging of the Lewinsville and Langley communities.
