The Lyceum is a historic structure located in Alexandria, Virginia. The structure was built in 1839 by a group of men who called their group The Alexandria Lyceum. The group, together with the Alexandria Library Company, built an enormous hall to provide a place for scientific research, quiet reading, and lecture.
This site has also served as the Chamber of Commerce, a private residence, a Civil War hospital ward, and the Nation's very first Bicentennial Visitors Center.
In present time, The Lyceum serves as a museum that offers exhibitions, public programs, and facility rental. The museum also has a store where you can buy some souvenir items or materials related to The Lyceum.
