Arlington County is a vibrant, small self-governing county in the Commonwealth of Virginia, United States. Arlington has a land area of approximately 26 square miles with a population of around 234,965(2017). Arlington is located in Northern Virginia on the southwestern bank of the Potomac River, directly across the District of Columbia.
The close proximity of Arlington to downtown Washington D.C makes it home to many important government institutions such as the Pentagon, Reagan National Airport, and Arlington National Cemetery. Arlington has the lowest unemployment rates of any place in Virginia. Major employers at Arlington include the federal, state or local government, and various companies such as Accenture and Deloitte. Getting around in Arlington is quite easy and effective. The Arlington Transit is a bus transit system which operates within the Arlington County and connects to Metrobus, and nearby Metrorail stations and local bus systems.
Arlington is also a very good place to raise a family. In fact, the 2007 issue of Forbes magazine named Arlington as one of the best places in the nation to educate one’s child. Arlington’s public school systems operate through the county’s K-12 education system with 22 elementary schools, 5 middle schools, and 3 public schools. Arlington received the 2002 EPA National Award for Overall Excellence in Smart Growth. Arlington has great residential neighborhoods with affordable housing units and large golden-style apartments complexes that are listed as historic places by the National Register.
