Burke Farmers Market Provides Direct Farm-To-Table Approach

The Burke Farmers Market, operated by Fairfax County Park Authority in the VRE parking Lot, 5671 Roberts Parkway, was the first to open in the County program for the 2021 season. It will be the last one to close, currently scheduled for Dec. 18. The market is open on Saturdays, 8 a.m.–noon. Local Fairfax County Park Authority Markets Open

The 2021 Fairfax County Park Authority Reston Farmers Market and Herndon Farmers Market recently opened under COVID-19 guidelines. Both offer a dazzling array of local produce, picked right before the market, and goods not seen in grocery stores. The Reston Market began its season on May 1, with its traditional bell ringing, this year by Fairfax County employee Naturalist Melodie Stehling of Centreville. “It brings me joy to announce another wonderful 2021 season,” she said. The Workhouse Arts Center is offering its unique venue for the Community Market in partnership with the South Fairfax Chamber of Commerce. Surrounded by historic buildings, the venue will allow businesses and organizations to market and sell goods and services. Since 1986, Larry Krop has been selling Christmas trees. He has been managing the Krop’s Crops at 11110 Georgetown Pike in Great Falls. He is famous for adding apples, corn, tomatoes, watermelons, and more. His Halloween and Christmas traditions of hayrides, campfires, apple cider, and pumpkins are also quite well known.
