The New Team to Follow in DC Sports

The DC area is known for its sports teams. The city has everything to offer, football, baseball, hockey, soccer, and basketball. In recent years the high light of the town has been the Capitols and Nationals, both making runs into the post season. Starting to make a rise in recent years are the Washington Wizards, gaining more attention and brining bigger names to the city. The Washington Wizards will be the team to watch in 2016.

With recent additions to the team and a new mentality on the court the Wizards have been able to begin to make a name for themselves in the Eastern Conference. Returning star point guard, John Wall, has been taking the team in a new direction under the leadership of head coach, Randy Whitman. They have also added stability in the locker room with the presence of veteran players like Drew Gooden and Alan Anderson. The future is also looking bright with three good rookie draft picks including, Bradley Beal, Otto Potter, and most recently Kelly Oubre.

This season will be as competitive and exciting as DC basketball has seen in years. The Wizards have taken the steps needed and should be expected to be seen deep in the post season. The Wizards will soon be the next great team of DC.

Fort Scott Park Is a historic site

Fort Scott Park

Fort Scott Park is located south west of Crystal City not far from Pentagon City and Aurora Hills in Arlington VA. Fort Scott Park is one of several parks in Northern Virginia that were part of the defenses of Washington during the civil war.  The sign at the site reads:

Historical Site
Defenses of Washington 1861 – 1865
Fort Scott

Here stood a detached lunette constructed in May 1861 to guard the south flank of the defenses of Washington and named for General Winfield Scott, then General-in-chief of the army. It was subsequently relegated to an interior position by the construction of defenses of Alexandria about 1 3/4 miles to the West. The fort had a perimeter of 313 yards and emplacements for 8 guns. A remnant portion may be found immediately to the West.

Today, Fort Scott Park is more than 11 and a half acres of family-friendly fun that welcomes toddlers and children. Fort Scott Park features appealing playground equipment like a sandbox, a playhouse, and both baby and regular swings. The park has nice shade and picnic pavilions. The adjacent basketball court is a great place to let dad make some free throws.  The park also has tennis courts and softball fields.
