About Fairlington

An unincorporated neighborhood in south of Arlington County, Fairlington was built in the 1940’s financed by the Defense Homes Corporation during World War II as a large brick-townhousing project, named after Fairfax and Arlington where it is located. Because of this Fairlington has been listed in the National Register of Historic Places and Virginia Landmarks Register in 1999.

Fairlington was owned by a friend of President George Washington, John Carlyle in 1756 and then occupied by the military in 1861 to 1870 before being owned by Hartford Insurance in the 1960’s till 1972 when the apartments were developed.
