Green Spring Gardens has a rich history with colonial origins.  It’s also a museum and a national historic site. You may visit the Garden Gate Plant Shop and our two gift shops, where you’ll find gift ideas ranging from books and gardening gloves to china and wind chimes.

It is popular as a gold mine of information and inspiration for the home gardener. It provides a outdoor classroom for children to visit with their families and learn about plants and wildlife. These lessons include practical landscaping techniques that are appropriate for the Washington metro area.

Spring Farm Day: Frying Pan Farm Park

farmers' market“Flying Pan Farm Park ” has a variety of attractions of both a historic and recreational nature. It has a historical value because of Frying Pan Spring Meeting House and The Old Floris Schoolhouse, which are located in the area. Frying Pan Spring Meeting House is listed on the ‘National Register of Historic Places’ and dating from the 18th century. The Old Floris Schoolhouse is believed to be constructed in 1911.

But the most attractive place is “Kidwell Farm”, which recreates a 1930s farm and still has many animals including cows and horses.  The farm houses many animals and to be somewhere around the nature of 95% self-sufficient, meaning they grow their own food and feed the livestock with their produce which is quite impressive.

This is your chance to visit Flying Pan Farm Park watch sheep shearing and antique farm equipment demonstrations from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Milk cows and goats. Enjoy crafts, games and puppet shows. The fee is $5 per person. For information, call 703-437-9101.
