Mount Vernon High School was named after George Washington’s estate – Mount Vernon and nicknamed ‘Majors’ after George Washington and his half brother Lawrence Washington when they had served as Adjunct of Virginia Colony in the rank of Major in red uniform. Therefore Mount Vernon High School proudly wears their school color of maroon and gray.

Mount Vernon High School’s vision and mission is to empower its culturally diverse student body through a dynamic partnership with parents, teachers, staff members and the community, and to inspire students to meet academic standards, lead ethical lives and demonstrate responsible citizenship. With its academic standards, Mount Vernon High School students represent over 50 countries and 30 languages and are offered a wide range of courses and students of other languages are provided with ESOL program and advanced placement and International Baccalaureate programs for Grades 9 to 12.
