The James M. Duncan Library in Del Ray
Long term Alexandria City Councilman and member of the Library Board, James M. Duncan (1897 – 1967) was born in Alexandria. After his death in 1967, the Del Ray branch was named after him in his honor.
The James M. Duncan Library continues to serve the Del Ray community in Alexandria.
The new renovation to expand the library has reached to 5,000 square feet comprising of the adult reading area and the new children’s reading section.
The first building in Alexandria with an ecologically friendly rood was James M. Duncan Library. Acting as an insulator it reduces the indoor temperature during the summer. With the use of vegetation and soil it reduces rain water to sewer run off and filters the water naturally.
James M. Duncan Library offers summer activities such as children fun with exciting and educational programs.
